If you are tired (maybe exhausted and suffering from lack of sleep) and you already had more than enough cups of coffee, this might be an idea for you: Iskiate! Iskiate is the chia seed drink of the Tarahumara (the running people) of northern Mexico. You can learn more about these super-marathon runners in the book Born to Run from Christopher McDougall. It’s a brilliant book about running.
Chia fueled Mayan and Aztec warriors in their conquests, so it can certainly help us through our daily battles! The chia seeds are super high in the essential fatty acid, omegas, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, fiber and protein. Plus: it can help you lose some weight too. You can sprinkle them on salads, mix with water, yogurt or juice, make a chia pudding.
This morning I just added 4tsp into a cup of choco drink, waited about 15 min and voilà! Tasty! I did get an energy boost.
When I have the time I want to try a more complex recipe like this one: Overnight Chocolate chia seed pudding.
How to make Iskiate?
Stir 2 Tbsp of chia seeds into a cup of water.
Let them sit for 15 minutes or longer.
The more it sits, the more like a glass of almost solid gelatin it becomes.
Add some citrus juice and honing to taste.
